Matmar

The Matmar village is located in Middle Egypt, approximately 15 kilometers north of the site of Badari. It was occupied throughout the predynastic period and into historic Egypt. A large number of graves have been found, showing good preservation of organic material and exhibiting differences in grave goods assemblages and the size of the graves, which were seemingly related to non-elite populations. Settlement contexts included several granaries pits.

Guy Brunton's excavations took place over two main seasons. With his small team, he investigated a ten-kilometre strech of land on the edge of the eastern desert from Khawaled in the south, to Ghoraieb in the north.
