London, Petrie Museum, UC 9024.

Date : Badarian

The model was found in a tomb attributed to the Badarian period.

Material : Clay

Preservation : Intact

Preservation information :

Several traces indicate that the object was burnt post-firing.

Description

This boat model offers an atypical typology. The flat, rectangular stern might represent a boarding platform or a flat surface on which the sailor was handling the pole. The prow is raised. The interior is hollowed out and the bottom is flat. The black areas suggest an exposition to fire.

Decoration

A small hole was drilled in the port thwart near the stern.
