Hiw
Hiw is located in the area of "Diospolis Parva", a concession excavated under Petrie's general direction (see also Abadiya and Semaineh), in 1898–1899.
Several cemeteries were excavated, and the work was also led by David Randall-MacIver and Arthur Mace at some locations. Henrietta Lawes drew pottery while Hilda Petrie and Beatrice Orme drew marks on the pottery and numbered finds and skeletal remains.
Cemeteries R contained predynastic graves cleared partly under the direction of Randall-MacIver and later by Mace. According to surviving excavation notebooks in the Petrie Museum, there were at least 225 graves;
Cemetery U contained predynastic graves cleared under the direction of Randall-MacIver. He recorded up to at least tomb U364.
