John Burges Eustace  Garstang  ( 05.05.1876  -  12.09.1956 )

John Garstang was a British archaeologist. He founded the Liverpool Institute of Archaeology in 1904; he was Professor of Methods and Practice of Archaeology at the University of Liverpool (1907–1941) and then Professor Emeritus from the following year. Beside his academic career at Liverpool as well as other institutions, he conducted extensive fieldwork; in Egypt, he worked at Beni Hasan (1902–1904), at Esna, Naqada, Hierakonpolis, Edfu, and in Nubia (1905–1906), and at Abydos (1906–1909); in Sudan, he worked at Meroë (1909–1914).
