Palette – rhomboid, miniature PAL-0062

By Hendrickx, Stan

Abydos

, Archaeological context unknown. John Garstang excavation.

Liverpool, Garstang Museum, E 2550.

Date : Naqada I–II (?)

General range of rhomboid palettes production.

Material : Greywacke

Preservation : Complete

Description

The rhomboid palette is angular at the ends of the shorter axis and has pointed extremities. There is a perforation near to one of the extremities; because of its small size, it can be suggested that this artefact is a miniature model of an average-size palette, perhaps used as a pendant or amulette.

Object use

No obvious traces of use are visible; the striations are the result of the manufacture process.
