Henri  de Morgan  ( 12.04.1854  -  13.11.1909 )

Henri de Morgan was a French excavator, and the older brother of Jacques de Morgan. Interested in archaeology since childhood, he later went to the United States where he represented the antiquities dealer Feuardent Frères. He joined his brother on excavations in Egypt in 1892–1897 and later, in 1906–1907, undertook a general survey of settlements and cemeteries in southern Upper Egypt from Esna to Edfu sponsored by The Brooklyn Museum. Since his main interest was in Egyptian prehistory, he undertook the excavation of several predynastic and archaic sites located in the area covered by his concession in in 1907–1909; these sites include Hierakonpolis and Mammariaya, but he was notably the first to discover Adaïma. He did this work at his own expense and subsequently sold his finds to The Brooklyn Museum.
