William Y. Adams was an American anthropologist. He was married to Nettie Alice Kesseler who accompanied him during fieldwork missions throughout their lives. In 1959, they moved to Sudan, where Bill initially worked as an aerial photographer for UNESCO, scouting for sites ahead of the flooding of the area that was to follow the construction of the Aswan High Dam. He worked at a number of sites and materials, including at Faras and the town sites at Meinarti and Kulubnarti. In 1966, Bill Adams became a anthropology professor in the UK; he moved to Lexington with his family.
