Jean  Capart  ( 21.02.1877  -  16.06.1947 )

A Belgian Egyptologist; Jean Capart studied Egyptology in Bonn. He led a curatorial career at the Musées Royaux du Cinquantenaire, Brussels. He conducted excavations at Elkab (1927–1929, 1945). Earlier on, he had conducted the Queen of the Belgians on a visit to Egypt (1923) and visited the Tomb of Tutankhamun during ongoing excavation by Howard Carter and his team. The queen was impressed, so much as to  establish the Fondation Égyptologique Reine Élisabeth, placed under the direction of J. Capart.
