Clarence Stanley  Fisher  ( 17.08.1876  -  20.07.1941 )

Clarence Stanley Fisher was an American architect with a keen interest for the ancient world. He first worked on archaeological sites in Iraq and Palestine before joining George A. Reisner in Egypt in 1909. He notably assisted him at Mesaid in 1910 during the first season of work at that site. During the First World War, he stayed in Egypt, working with Near East Relief. In 1914, he became curator of the Egyptian section of the University of Pennsylvania Museum.

C.S. Fisher conducted fieldwork in Egypt (Giza, Memphis, Dendera, later also on the West Bank in Luxor) and in the Near East for the University of Pennsylvania Museum. He was awarded an honorary Doctorate in 1924 before being appointed tprofessor of Archaeology at the American Schools of Oriental Research the following year. He continued working in Palestine (Megiddo) and led charitable work in Jerusalem.
