Anthony J.  Arkell  ( 29.07.1898  -  26.02.1980 )

British archaeologist; in 1940–1944 when he was Chief transport Officer in Sudan, he undertook the organisation of the Museums of Antiquities and Ethnography in Khartoum and the creation of the Sudan Antiquities Service (today NCAM). After WWII, he became a lecturer (1948) then reader (1953–1963)  in Egyptology at University College London. In parallel, he was the Curator of the Flinders Petrie Collection (1948–1963), when he undertook the unpacking and cataloguing of the collection which had been left in storage since the war. He excavated at Khartoum (1944–1945) and in Shaheinab (1949–1950).
