Decoration

Only the upper part of the vessel is decorated. A double concentric line is painted at the rim and another one at the level of the maximum diameter. Inbetween is a concontinuous series of six upturned, crosshatched triangles; their tips are connected to the uppermost double-line.

Most of the crosshatching lines extend carelessely and irregularly below the level of the maximum diameter, as if the vessel was only inteded to be seen from above.

Quibell (1905) listed the provenance of this artefact as Saghel el-Baglia, without suggesting that this provenance had been used erroneously, instead of Gebel el-Tarif. This is however likely the case. See de Morgan (1896, 1897).
