William  MacGregor  ( 16.05.1848  -  26.02.1937 )

William MacGregor formed one of the largest collections of Egyptian antiquities ever made by a private individual, which was kept in his house, Bolehall Manor in Tamworth. He subscribed funds for many excavations in Egypt and Nubia. His collection was sold at Sotheby’s between 26 June – 6 July 1922. Henri Wellcome purchased nearly a quarter of the lots. MacGregor bequeathed some minor pieces to the Ashmolean Museum.
