Description

Ivory tusk which has at the bottom an hippopotamus carved figurine, probably made from hippopotamus ivory. The rim is fragmented but few holes are still visible. The hippopotamus figurine is well preserved. The ears, eyes and nostriles are represented by small protuberances. The shape of the belly is slighlty rounded. Four short legs are represented but no tail. This ivory tusk has been found as a pair with another carved ivory tusk (6.3).
