Date : Naqada IIC–D

General date of type pal_bov_1b, see Droux (2019).

Material : Greywacke

Preservation : Fragmentary

Preservation information :

The head is broken off; chip on the edge of the backside.

Description

The palette has a mostly ovoid shape with added stylised zoomorphic details. The Barbary sheep is shown in a recumbent position. A small hole is drilled through the back, likely for attaching a string or thong.

Decoration

Since the head is missing, it is not possible to identify the species with certainty, but the presence of a chest mane at the front of the palette and the manner of showing the legs folded under the body strongly suggest that the Barbary sheep might have been the intended species by comparison with more complete palettes of type pal_bov_1b.
