C-Ware – elliptical bowl C-0905
By Droux, Xavier
Archaeological site unknown
Turin, Fondazione Museo delle Egizie, P.7261.
Material : Nile silt (Painted)
Preservation : Almost complete
Decoration preservation : Mostly faded
Preservation information :
Repaired from 11 sherds; some parts are missing. More than half of the surface is heavily eroded and the painted decoration only survives as white shiny traces on the otherwise mat background (where the polish has eroded away).
Description
The paint is quite thick and granular.
Decoration
The best preserved element of the decoration is a bird, painted at one of the narrow ends of the bowl. Standing on two legs, it looks to the right, its head lowered, and its tail upraised. In front of it, scant traces indicate the possible presence of a second bird, although this is uncertain. Behind the well-preserved bird is a vertical line with polka dots along both its sides. The rest of the decoration consists of several possible, upside-down plant designs, some larger than the others. A series of seven crescent shapes runs along the bottom of the bowl.

Comments
The vessel had received a museum number that has since been worn away. It probably belongs to the group of objects purchased by Schaparelli in Egypt in 1900–1901, but this cannot be ascertained..
