By Droux, Xavier

Archaeological site unknown.

1900–1901 : Bought by Schiaparelli in Egypt.

Turin, Fondazione Museo delle Egizie, S.853.

Material : Nile silt (Painted)

Preservation : Complete, repaired

Decoration preservation : Mostly faded

Preservation information :

Four mended sherds.

Decoration

Four motifs are painted along the edge inside the vessel, leaving the bottom empty. On the long edges are two animals (one on each side) both facing toward the same short end of the vessel. One of them has its tail represented by a short, straight, upturned line, the other by a small circle. They both appear to have two short ears and a triangular head without added detail; the figures are too stylised to propose a secure identification of the intended species, but they could be dogs. The other two designs are oblong "leaf" shapes, filled with parallel wavy zigzags.

The authenticity of the decoration is not certain.
